14. 1898 – Johann Hoschek
He was born in Cieszyn in 1820, and turned his hands to various professions in his youth, working as a tanner, a jeweller, and then becoming a property owner. He was a member of the Cieszyn Rifle Club from 1850. Hoschek was elected for the first time to the Town Council in 1873 and retained his function there until 1894. In the years 1873-76 and 1879-91 he was a member of the Executive Board, and was for some time Mayor Demel’s deputy. He was a long serving member of the board of directors in the Cieszyn Kasa Oszczędności Savings Bank. He died in 1899.
The proposal to award Johann Hoschek with honorary citizenship of Cieszyn was lodged by Dr Rudolf Bukowski at a meeting of the Town Council of 16 February 1898. Along with Hoschek, the names of four other individuals were put forward, and all of these men shared many years of dedicated work as members of the town’s local authority. Many people took part in the discussion but the proposal was passed unanimously.
