19. 1898 – Anton Gimpel
Gimpel was a haberdasher and civil servant, born in Vienna in 1819. He moved to Cieszyn after marrying Anna Klimosch, was an activist in the local National Guard in 1848, and for that reason remained under surveillance until 1861. In 1870 he was elected to the Town Council, remaining in office until 1880. He was elected as a deputy member of the Council in 1885 and 1897. He was the founder and for many years the leader of the Cieszyn Industrial Association (Gewerbe-Verein), as well as a member of many other Cieszyn associations and clubs. He died in 1900.
He received the title of honorary citizen by a resolution of the Town Council dated 30 December 1898 on the basis of a proposal by Eduard August Schroeder. His long years of service for the town were the grounds for the award.
