25. Fryderyk (Frederick) * 1480/1483 + 1507
The son of Kazimierz II and Joanna, the daughter of Wiktoryn of Podĕbrady. He studied in Italy and at the University of Vienna, where in 1503 he held the office of rector. He was provost of the collegiate church of the Holy Cross in Wrocław, and dean of the Wrocław Chapter. In 1501 he was appointed coadjutor by the Bishop of Wrocław, Jan Roth, but even though he was supported by the Silesian princes this plan was not accepted by Pope Alexander VI. The reasons for this were political intrigues within the Wrocław Chapter; namely its disapproval of a Piast too closely identified with Poland and Bohemia (!).
He died on his way to Silesia from Italy and was buried in Siena.
