27. 1912 – Dr Rudolf Bukowski
He was a lawyer and politician born in Biała in 1842. He studied law at various universities, and he received his PhD in law in 1866 at the University of Vienna. In 1874 he was elected as a deputy to the Galician Sejm, but gave up his mandate after moving to Cieszyn in 1875. He began working as a legal advisor here and later as a lawyer for the Teschener Kammer. From 1887 he was a member of the Town Council, from 1888 in the Executive Board, and in 1891 he was elected deputy mayor of Cieszyn. After the death of Demel, Bukowski took over his seat in the Silesian Sejm in Opava. He was elected mayor of Cieszyn in 1908, which position he held until 1913. He died in 1922.
The title of honorary citizen of Cieszyn was conferred on him on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. The resolution was adopted at a special, extraordinary meeting on 25 November 1912, presided over by the deputy mayor, Emil Wotke. The grounds for Bukowski’s award were given as his long years of good work in the Town Council and his achievements in the development of the town as mayor.
