31. 1917 – Dr Hermann Hinterstoisser
He was a doctor from the Salzburg region born in 1861, a graduate of the University of Vienna specialising in surgery and gynaecology. From 1892 he was director of the Lutheran General Hospital, which from 1903 functioned as the State Silesian Hospital. He was a member of the Silesian Hygiene Inspectorate in Opava in the years 1902-08 and in the years 1908-1920 the Hygiene Inspectorate in Vienna. He was the founder of Verein Ostschlesischer Arzte and from 1893 its first chairman, and belonged to numerous German associations. He held the position of director of the Silesian Hospital until 1930, when he retired. He died in 1932.
He had terms of office as a member of the Cieszyn Town Council in 1897-1900 and 1907-1916/1920, and was a deputy member of the Council in 1900-1906. The twenty-fifth anniversary of his position as director of the Silesian Hospital fell on 1st May 1917. On that occasion he received congratulations from the Executive Board in whose name Mayor Alois Gamroth submitted a proposal for Hinterstoisser to be awarded with honorary citizenship of Cieszyn at the next meeting of the Council on 21 June 1917. His work for the people of Cieszyn as a doctor and hospital director and his contribution to German culture in Cieszyn and beyond was cited as the grounds for the award. The proposal was accepted unanimously.
