From time immemorial Cieszyn was the seat of various court institutions; sometimes the court authority belonged to the municipality. The seat of the district and municipal court, which covered the whole of Silesia, was placed in town on the turn of the XlXth and XXth century. The building which was built for this purpose was in Pottery street (Garncarska) and began working in 1905.
