One could define the costume worn in Cieszyn (and its area) as the strangest folk-Empire-style costu
It is presented on the oldest watercolours known, from the beginning of the 19th century, from the collection in Brno. A narrow corselette ends right under the breast line and a skirt is sewn on to it. The length of the skirt is the most striking; it ends just below the knees. Exposed calves were dressed in red woolen stockings. Together with the changing fashion, the costume has undergone transformations.
