Protection of nature
Just like any other place that has been inhabited by people for a long time, Cieszyn is a place with a deeply transformed environment. Despite this however, quite a few „wild’ places of great value have remained within the town. Some of these places are preserved within the boundaries of three Nature-reserves, 2 Nature-parks and 2 Nature-Landscape Complex.
Nature Reserves
This forest reserve was set up in 1953. It comprises an isolated forest complex (14,76 ha) situated on a slope of the right side of the Olza valley, in the northern part of Cieszyn.
Monuments of Nature
Man has held old and stately trees in esteem for a long time. Today’s biggest, most valuable or rare trees are put under legal protection as “Monuments of Nature”. In Cieszyn 37 have been established, i.e. 99 trees, growing either in isolation or in groups, have come within this kind of protection.
Nature Parks
It is situated in Boguszowice, on the right slope of the Olza river valley, from the south-west and it adjoins the southern border of the “Kopce” reserve. It comprises meadows, thicket, and field groves whose total area is 14,51 ha, out of which forest takes 3,6 ha
Nature-Landscape Complex
It comprises the area of the south-west slope of the Castle Hill, from the side of the Olza. The area: 0,4 ha. The complex was set up to protect a rich location of ivy with numerous flowering specimens.
