The biggest industrial works in Cieszyn
before World War I was Jakub and Józef Kohn’s factory of bentwood furniture. It was situated at the corner of Jabłonkowska and Frydecka streets. At the times of greatest prosperity (the end of the 19th century) it employed more than two thousand workers. It was set up in 1871 as a branch of the factory in Vsetina (Moravia), which belonged to the Kohns, who competed in the production of bentwood furniture with famous Michael Thonet. The longest operating production company in Cieszyn is the brewery, set up on Castle Hill in 1653. In today’s place and form it has been producing beer since 1846.
