The greatest Cieszyn collector
was Bruno Konczakowski (1881-1959), a son of an iron trader. During his studies in Vienna he became interested in objects of historical value, especially arms. The taking over of the family business, which was one of the biggest in this region, made it possible for him to develop his interests. He bought objects of historical value in antique-dealers’ shops, in auction sales all over Europe and directly from the owners. After his death the collection was divided. Part of it (the most numerous and the most precious) went to The State Collection of Art in the Wawel Castle in Cracow and the remaining part – to the Museum of Cieszyn Silesia.
