The greatest plague
in the history of Cieszyn took place in1585 when tens of thousands of people died in Silesia, and in Cieszyn itself - three thousand. Princess Katarzyna Sydonia donated ground beyond the town walls to the town for the burial of the victims of the plague. Also, a wooden chapel was erected on the new cemetery, and in 1594 - a little church under the invocation of The Holy Trinity. Epidemics devastated Cieszyn many more times, among other dates, in 1599, 1623.
