The most famous hunting weapon
called a tschinke rifle, that was produced in Cieszyn from the second half of the 16th century, was used to hunt for birds; therefore it was called a bird rifle. Rich embellishment by means of butt and stock incrustation, engraved adornment of the barrel and an innovative (for the times) shooting mechanism soon brought the weapon into great demand. Until today about 300 specimens have been preserved. They constitute an embellishment of all the world’s leading arms museums, as well as private collections. Beautiful tschinke rifles are in the Museum of Cieszyn Silesia. They can also be called the oldest bribe in the history of Cieszyn. The specimens, handed by the authorities to the commanders of the various armies that seized the town, one after another, during the Thirty Years’ War, were supposed to ensure protection from plunder and damage.
