The oldest Cieszyn coin
is a haller of Prince Przemysław I Noszak, minted before 1384. The only example we know about is in the collection of the Regional Museum in Bydgoszcz. However, even before this (in the 13th century) a coinmaker called Fritto (Fritton) stayed at the court of the first Cieszyn Prince, Mieszko I. In the 15th century the town authorities had had the right to mint coins for some time. From the end of the 15th century Cieszyn princes minted their own coins again. In the times of the last princess, Elisabeth Lucretia (the 17th cent.), the mint had its premises in the house on which part of the Bludowski townhouse was erected (today’s Cieszyn Historical Library).
