The oldest coin
found in Cieszyn is a gold Celtic coin dating back to the 1st cent. B.C. It was discovered in 1951 on Castle Hill and it is one of the so-called cup-shaped (shell) coins, which were a typical product of the culture of Eastern Celts. Found in the layers connected with what is known as Puchov culture, it is associated with the stay of groups of Celts in our area.
