The strangest flower
which appears in early spring in Cieszyn woodlands and gardens is cieszynianka wiosenna (Hacquetia epipactis). With its yellow and green inflorescence, often taken for its flower, it creates beautiful carpets in the undergrowth. According to legend, the plant spread around Cieszyn from some soil brought by a Swedish soldier who died near Cieszyn during the Thirty Years’ War. The truth is slightly different and it is more probable that the plant was brought here by Austrian soldiers because it can also be found in the southern part of the Alps, and in Moravia and Slovakia.
