The characteristic feature of plant life in Cieszyn is the occurrence of numerous areas of tree stands and field preserves, and also groups of stenothermal scrub, xerothermic grass and meadows. There few large areas of woodland are chiefly located in the northern part of the town; Marlowice, Boguszowice, Kalembice, and the eastern part; Krasna, Gułdowy. Most of the trees grow alongside waterways, or on the slopes of ravines and gullies, creating the characteristic feature of the town’s landscape and contributing to the increase in variety of species and habitats, also creating so-called ecological corridors, which let animals roam and extend the range of occurrence of plants.
The following types of woodland occur in Cieszyn;
Carpathian beechwoods or high-level dry-ground forest in drier areas.
Low-level dry-ground forest in wetter areas.
Lowland stands of ash and elm in the Olza valley Mixed poplar and willow stands; or alder, ash and mixed alder and ash stands in valleys with bigger streams.
      The characteristic feature of the flora is the occurrence of stenothermal species which have come from further south in Europe and the occurrence in one area of elements characteristic of lowlands and uplands.
      In Cieszyn the occurrence of 30 fully or partly protected plant species has been established. This list was drawn up on the basis of data from the literature and the author’s own observations.
