The Park of Mieszko Ist
The park came into being at the beginning of the XXth century. On the slope that is a projection of the line of Most Wolności (The Bridge of Freedom), above 3-go Maja Street, a monument commemorating the 60–year reign of the Emperor Franciszek Józef was mounted in 1908. The area around the monument was planted with trees, mainly horse-chestnuts, beeches, and black locusts, and a park was formed. A different monument, i.e. the monument of Mieszko the First, has been here since 1933. The park constitutes the northern part of the nature reserve “The Communal woodland on the Puńcówka”. The area is slowly losing its park character and the only things that remain from its past are the stone stairs, the paths on the slope and the arrangements of beeches and horse-chestnuts in forms of avenues. Maidenhair-tree, the leaves.
