The Peace Park
The Peace Park adjoins the building of the Cieszyn Museum located in the former palace (from the end of the XVIIIth cent.) of Earl Jan Larisch. The present park, which used to be the palace garden, was built in the place of the former Town Moat and at first it probably reached as far as the Młynówka stream. The name of the park is connected with the signing, in 1779, in the palace garden, of the so-called Cieszyn Peace treaty, which ended the War of Succession between Prussia and Austria. In the park, which is situated slightly lower than the adjoining streets, there are, among others: a band-stand, a collection of stones and stone fragments, and fragments of the old fortified walls. In the years 2001-2002 the park underwent renovation and its old splendour was restored. Among the trees one should pay attention to the following: Norway maple, Schwedler sub-variety (Acer platanoides “Schwedleri”), a lime-tree (Tilia x euchlora), birch-trees (Betula pendula “Youngii”), magnolia trees ( Magnolia x Soulangiana “Alexandrina”), a gorgeous cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera “plumosa aurea”), and, above all, a lime-tree ( Tilia plytyphyllos), a monument of nature, that grows behind the museum, near the houses on Srebrna Street.
